Google Cloud Next 2023: The Future of AI

Written by Patrick Huynh | May 17, 2024 2:19:17 PM

Recently we took part in Google Cloud Next in San Francisco. This three-day event was packed with groundbreaking insights and visionary discussions. Let’s dive into some of the highlights our colleagues Patrick Huynh and André Danielsson brought back to share with us.

What is Google Cloud Next?

Google Cloud Next is a conference dedicated to Google’s Cloud innovations. It’s an annual three-day event and serves as a platform for unveiling new features, product updates, and invaluable insights. The event showcases the synergy between Google and its partners, making it a must-attend for tech enthusiasts and industry professionals.

A Glance at Google’s AI Advancements:

Unsurprisingly, this year’s focus was AI. Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google, encapsulated the essence of the conference with his statement: “For the last seven years, we’ve taken an AI-first approach, applying AI to make our products radically more helpful.” The emphasis was clear – generative AI will shape not only how we use technology as consumers but also how we develop it. Leveraging AI collaborators is key to boosting productivity, accelerating time-to-market, and enhancing the quality of our work.

DuetAI:

This year Google emerged as a force in the world of AI, introducing DuetAI, their latest AI collaborator. Think of it as ChatGPT or Co-pilot but with a specialized focus on developing within Google Cloud. Google has integrated DuetAI into various Google Cloud services, allowing users to tap into its AI capabilities for code completion, suggestions, and even asking questions. This integration shines within VertexAI Collab notebooks, making machine learning more accessible to a broader audience.

DuetAI’s integration into Google Workspace promises efficiency gains by simplifying time-consuming tasks. You can now generate tables and graphs in Google Sheets or even create entire decks in Google Slides using natural language commands.

Google is determined to win us over with DuetAI, emphasizing its utility in Google Cloud projects. Extensive training on GCP documentation and a strong focus on privacy underscore the commitment to user satisfaction. Google also stressed their privacy credentials with your data being project-specific, which we believe will be a trending subject as AI develops further.

Other Highlights:

● Vertex AI: Google’s comprehensive AI platform Vertex AI took center stage, allowing users to access pre-trained models, fine-tune them, perform transfer learning, and deploy directly to the Cloud – all from a single, user-friendly interface. Notably, the “Model Garden” caught our attention, offering a diverse selection of pre-trained models to expedite AI application development.

● AlloyDB AI: An extension of Google’s fully Postgres-compatible database, AlloyDB AI empowers users to pair Generative AI applications with a familiar Postgres interface. It seamlessly transforms data into vector embeddings, enabling SQL queries with pre-trained or custom models.
